  1. So, I made a huge mistake. While applying for an ETA, I completely misread the criminal question. I was convicted of a minor DUI (no jail time) over 4 years ago, but didn't realize that it was only asking about something that required me to do time. I was just trying to answer honestly so nothing would arise in the future. Now, apparently I am banned from applying with this passport number for life? I don't know what else to do. I just submitted my working holiday visa application, but I am naturally worried that it isn't going to go through now. Is there anything I can do to clear this up? Please help!
  2. I have called IMMI support line (131 881) several times asking for advise regarding any complications about being in Australia on an ETA when a decision is being made. I know 100% that she CANNOT be in Australia during the decision making phase but I was worried about when that would be. As you all know, it can happen at any time. Yes the IMMI website says 75% applications processed within 15 months and 90% within 20 months but they have told me numerous times that this is just a guide. So i thought I'd better call and make sure and here is what they said: (FYI I have a '3 call rule' to make sure 100% that the info I receive is correct) 1st consultant:- the case officer will communicate with you regarding your visa and, if you are in Australia, you would need to indicate that and specify the date you leave. 2nd consultant:- confirmed what the 1st person said but added that the case office is under no obligation/requirement to contact you to say it is in the decision making phase and if she was in Australia when the decision was being made the application would be rejected and you would have to reapply. 3rd consultant:- confirmed with the 2nd consultant but gave the solution of contacting the relevant Australian embassy (Berlin as she is Swedish) using an online query form and explain what dates you would be travelling to and from Australia. Chances are you won't hear anything back unless it is an issue. Can anyone shed some insight into these different advisements from IMMI helpers?
  3. We are currently in the middle of processing my partners Australian spousal visa but also applying for her ETA so she can come visit me. However we are having issues processing the ETA. From the research we did prior to applying for the Spousal visa it said that the eta wouldn't be an issue:- 18. Can I travel to Australia while my Partner visa application is being processed? You may apply for other visas while your partner visa application is being processed. This will be assessed against the criteria for that visa subclass and will not affect the assessment of your partner visa application An ETA visa will not have the Condition 8503 no further stay attached to it. This means that you can make another visa application in Australia whilst your ETA is still valid. Just because a person may have an intention to apply for another visa in Australia, such as a partner visa, does not in itself mean that that they are not intending to visit Australia as a genuine visitor. If the Migration Regulations allow for another application to be made, a person should not be prevented from doing so. Can you have/get an ETA while a spousal visa is in process?
  4. Hello all, i am new here and i have a question. I applied for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) Last year around May 2015 and was granted a valid ETA. I visited Australia three times during my 12 month period each visit being one or two weeks. My ETA expired May 2016 but i wanted to visit again this year in August (for a month) so i applied again and was granted another 12 months. Is this allowed? Will i possibly run into any problems at the airport once i get to immigration? I am becoming anxious about the possibility of not being granted entry and having the money i spent on my hotel/airplane tickets going to waste. I know that my new ETA is valid until June 2017 but i was just wondering if ETA's are re-approved often. I tried looking up to see if anyone has ever re-applied and gotten granted an ETA twice but i have not found anything. If anyone out there has renewed or reapplied for an ETA twice and been approved or know if this is OKAY please let me know as it will help me calm my nerves about immigration. Thank you all so much and have a wonderful day
  5. Hello, I'm looking for some advise on a problem i'm currently having in regards to my visa application for Australia. I have submitted a application for a WHV and it has been referred to the VACCU for further assessment due to my criminal record. This is fine and is what i expected although i wasn't expecting it take this amount of time (currently 2 and a half months ). The problem i have is that I am travelling with my partner around south east Asia and we are running low on funds, she has been granted her WHV already. So my question is can I apply for a ETA and go to Australia on this visa while i wait for my WHV and obviously not work an my partner can work to support us while we wait to find out what the outcome of my WHV is? If this is a negative and i get refused the WHV my Mum has said she will lend us the money to travel Australia on the ETA and we will pay her back when we get back to the U.K. Any help on this would be much appreciated and any ideas about other ways i could still travel aus if i get refused a WHV would be as well. thank you
  6. Fact sheet Electronic Travel Authority The Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) is an electronically stored authority for travel to Australia for short-term visits for tourism or business visitor purposes. It replaces the visa label or stamp in a passport and removes the need for application forms. Most ETAs are issued immediately by computer links between the Department, travel agents, airlines and specialist service providers around the world. In a small number of cases, some additional processing is required. Background The ETA system was introduced in 1996. It is available to passport holders from a number of countries, regions and locations. See: Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601) The ETA system can be accessed by more than 300,000 travel agents worldwide, by more than 75 airlines and through the internet. About the Electronic Travel Authority There is only one type of Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) - the ETA subclass 601. The ETA allows for people who want to visit Australia for tourism or business visitor purposes. It allows for up to three months stay on each visit within a 12 month period from the date of grant, or for the validity of the passport if it is less than 12 months (multiple entry). Tourism includes holidays, recreation or visiting family and friends. Business visitor purposes may include attending a conference, negotiation or an exploratory business visit. Short-term business visits do not include work. If you are intending to carry out short-term, non-ongoing highly specialised work in Australia you should apply for the Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) visa (subclass 400). More information on the requirements for the Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) (subclass 400) visa is available. Fees and charges for ETAs are available from the Department's website. How the Electronic Travel Authority works Service providers enter the information contained in the applicant's passport into the ETA system, or through their existing travel or airline reservation system. The ETA system interacts with departmental systems to check the applicant's details. Following these checks, the service provider is advised of the outcome of the ETA application. If an ETA is granted, it is linked electronically to the applicant's passport. If a 'referral' message is received instead, the service provider refers the applicant to the nearest Australian visa office. No evidence of the ETA is needed, as it is electronically stored in the system. An ETA is linked electronically to the passport. Its details can be seen by staff at airlines, travel agencies and Australian border agencies. Online applications Online access to the Electronic Travel Authority system was introduced in May 2001. This enabled tourists and business visitors intending to visit Australia for three months or less to apply for a subclass 601 ETA at the same time as they made their other online travel bookings. Note: An AUD20 service fee will be incurred for online lodgement. Applicants may also seek an ETA through their nearest Australian visa office. Applicants who already hold another visa must apply for an ETA at an Australian visa office outside Australia and provide their passport details either in person, by telephone, by post or by email. They are not able to lodge an ETA application online or through an airline or an approved agent. If the ETA is granted, it will not necessarily: come into effect when the ETA is issued as the current visa may still be in effect cancel (or cease) the existing visa. ETAs cannot be granted, or extended, while the ETA applicant is in Australia. Since 27 October 2008, the new eVisitor system replaced online ETAs for all European ETA eligible travellers. See: eVisitor (subclass 651) For ETA eligible passports: See: Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601) For eVisitor eligible passports: See: eVisitor (subclass 651) Benefits ETA arrangements provide significant benefits to travellers, as well as airlines and the Australian Government. Travellers benefit as the ETA provides a seamless process for providing authority to travel to Australia from places where airline tickets are obtained. Travellers also enjoy faster processing at airports. Airlines benefit by utilising computer systems to verify that travellers have authority to enter Australia before issuing their boarding passes. This saves airline staff time at the check-in counter and reduces their likelihood of transporting improperly documented passengers. The Australian Government benefits by gaining access to data on all travellers to Australia. This supports maintenance of Australian border integrity by law enforcement and health authorities.
